Montessori Happenings

Last week, the Westside Campus culminated a month-long study about world cultures with a UNICEF Day celebration. The students participated in a morning of fun crafts and activities representing cultures from around the globe.

They were also invited to wear traditional attire from their own or another culture. The preschool and kindergarten students decorated handprints with henna, wove paper to represent African kente cloth, ate dehydrated plantains, used the dot art technique of Aboriginal Australians to decorate boomerangs, and more! The children also donated coins to our UNICEF Penny Drive which raised more than $85! According to UNICEF, our donation can provide pencils and exercise books for 100 children, four local language storybooks for a school library, three UNICEF backpacks for children to use for school, and 25 bars of soap to keep kids clean and healthy! As an integral part of Maria Montessori's original teachings, we know how important it is to expose children to people and communities outside of their own neighborhood and to encourage peace through education and giving back. Thank you to all of the parent and grandparent helpers who made our UNICEF Day celebration a success!

"Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war." -- Maria Montessori
