April News from the Front Class

We are so grateful to have parent volunteers coming into our classroom! It has been so exciting to watch the children who are reading to the volunteers gain confidence as their reading skills grow stronger and see children having fun while learning the Geometric Solids, the Introduction to the Decimal System and their Sounds! A huge thank you to all the families who donated books to our classroom in honor of your child’s birthday! We are constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to be a part of such a wonderful community. THANK YOU!

March was a busy month! Ms. Verity spent some time sharing with the children information about the life and art of Frida Kahlo. They saw many pictures that Frida painted of herself with flowers in her hair and were able to make flower headbands. Currently, the children are able to view a picture of Frida in the art area and draw their own version of that picture with similar colors.

Ms. Christa has been doing various activities with the children involving our 5 senses. The children were tickled by a feather on their feet and hands while exploring the sense of touch and learned about the different parts of the tongue that taste sweet, sour and salty foods while eating strawberries, lemons and pretzels. Ms. Christa will be continuing with the senses in April as well.

Australia is a land of amazing beauty and amazing animals as well as amazing people. The children have been exploding with research lessons on the unique areas and the unique animals. We are learning some new songs about Australia too! Ask your child to sing and tell you the story about “Waltzing Matilda”! This song is currently on cd in our book corner with materials to act out the story as the child listens to the song. The book corner is a very popular place to visit these days.

April brings some important dates to mark on your calendars!!! Back to School Night is Thursday, April 11th from 6-7:30PM. This is a special time for your child to share with you the lessons they are doing in the classroom. Thursday, April 25th is our trip to Australia!
