Our Montessori schools closely follow the Flagstaff Unified School District policy on snowy days.  When FUSD announces a closure due to heavy snow and impassible roads, our campuses will also be closed.  When FUSD has a delayed start due to snow and poor road conditions (usually announced for two hours), our charter schools will also delay their opening times, but by one hour only for all of our charter students, including the Children’s House kindergartners.   All MSF schools, charter and Children’s House preschools, will be open at 7:30 am for earlier drop-off’s despite any delayed start announcements.

Our school announcement system will generate an email and a telephone auto-call for snow closures or delays to all MSF student households that have registered in the SchoolMessenger Notification  System. Announcements for delays or closures may also be heard on several of the local radio stations or found on the Flagstaff Unified’s website (, usually by 5:00am.

Montessori Philosophy

Montessori PhilosophyThe Montessori Philosophy encourages children to develop their observation skills through activities that use the five senses, kinetic movement, spatial refinement, small and gross motor skill coordination, and concrete knowledge that leads to later abstraction.
